Full-Frame 6K CMOS Sensor. The Canon EOS C400 6K Cinema Camera (RF) is based around Canon’s back-illuminated, stacked CMOS sensor, which improves on previous EOS sensors’ readout speeds and boasts superlative light-capture technology. This sensor can capture footage in 17:9 and 16:9 formats, and it supports Super 35mm and Super 16mm lenses with the appropriate sensor-crop modes.

Three ISO Speeds. The 6K sensor enables you to select one of three ISO speeds—800, 3,200, and 12,800—to suit any lighting condition you throw at it, from full sunlight to well-lighted studio settings to nighttime city skylines to interiors with scant available light.

Recording Formats. Different shoots call for different recording formats, and the EOS C400 has the right one for your project. It tops out at 6K 60 fps Cinema RAW and HQ, ST, and LT Cinema RAW Light 12-bit capture, and can also capture 10-bit 4:2:2 4K footage oversampled from the 6K sensor at up to 120 fps without cropping for outstanding sharpness and detail, low noise, and reduced moiré. In addition, the C400 supports slow- and fast-motion recording at up to UHD 4K 120 fps and 2K 180 fps.

New Codecs for Easier Editing. The EOS C400 includes the XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S codecs, which use metadata preservation, and a simplified naming system and folder structure to make editing a snap.

Film and Broadcast Ready. This camera has a range of interfaces and features that make it well-suited to film and broadcast productions. You get 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI, and HDMI video outputs; two mini-XLR audio inputs; timecode, genlock, and return-video DIN connectors; and a 12-pin lens port. The shutter’s clear-scan mode automatically detects and accounts for your light source’s frequency to help diminish or completely eliminate the flicker you sometimes see in LED walls.

Improved Dual-Pixel Autofocus System. No dedicated focus puller? The C400’s Dual-Pixel AF II system, which gains performance benefits from the 6K CMOS sensor, has you covered. Its intelligent tracking feature quickly and accurately follows humans’ and animals’ eyes, faces, heads, and bodies.

Form Factor and Ergonomics. The C400 6K was designed with an eye toward versatility and operator comfort. Its compact, lightweight build makes it great for just about any shooting configuration, including hand-held, gimbal, and drone use. Its length-adjustable vari-angle touchscreen LCD ensures that you’ll be able to have a clear view of the proceedings whether you’re shooting hand-held, shoulder-mounted, or on a tripod, while the articulated, ergonomic handgrip houses a multi-function shoe, three custom-assignable buttons, and captive screws that you won’t lose when you’re mounting or detaching the grip.

Power and Memory. This camera uses the tried-and-true BP-A60N battery, which features a 6400 MAh capacity and an additional power outlet to support this camera’s multifunction shoe. There are dual media slots, one CFexpress Type-B and one SD, so that you can record formats up to RAW on a CFexpress card while simultaneously sub-recording and capturing proxy footage on an SD card.

Mechanical ND Filters. Built-in mechanical ND filters let you almost instantly add up to ten stops of ND filtration, enabling you to maintain your chosen depth of field without needing to stop down on your lens.

Ethernet and Wireless Control; IP Streaming. The combination of the C400’s Ethernet port and Canon’s IP-based XC protocol lets you add RC-IP1000, RC-IP100, or third-party remote-control shading to your broadcast-style production, while the Canon Camera Connect app lets you change camera settings and control multiple cameras. Finally, you can use the SRT protocol for IP streaming.
