The Fuji GFX 50S II Medium Format Mirrorless is a versatile, compact, and portable medium-format mirrorless camera. Key features include:
51.4MP medium-format mirrorless
X-Processor 4 imaging processor
Fast, accurate autofocus; 6.5-stop image stabilization
Fuji G-mount camera
What’s Changed? The Fuji GFX 50S II offers a few substantial updates to its predecessor. It has a more powerful image stabilization system; an updated image processor; a lossy RAW compression option that lets you store smaller RAW files with little to no discernible drop in quality; a dynamic-range priority mode that adjusts exposure to protect highlights and brightens shadows to maximize your images’ dynamic range; and new Nostalgic Neg. and Eterna Bleach Bypass film-simulation modes. It’s not all great news, though. The 50S II’s EVF offers 0.77x magnification compared to the original 50S’s 0.85×. That said, the EVF is still plenty comparable to those found in competitors’ mirrorless cameras.
51.4MP Medium Format MIrrorless. The Fuji GFX 50S II uses a 43.8 × 32.9mm CMOS sensor for superior sharpness and image quality in a relatively compact mirrorless form factor. The larger-than-full-frame sensor size has a reverse crop factor of 0.79x, so keep that in mind when selecting lenses.
X-Processor 4 Imaging Processor. The X-Processor 4 imaging processor gives you continuous shooting at up to 3 fps; Full HD video capture at 29.97, 25.0, 24.0, and 23.98 frame rates; and a range of Film Simulation modes, including the new, subtly retro-styled Nostalgia Neg. mode and a silver-retaining Eterna Bleach Bypass mode.
Multiple Aspect Ratios. You can adapt this camera to various aspect ratios, including 4:3 (default), 3:2, 16:9, 1:1, 65:24, 5:4, and 7:6.
Fuji G-Mount. The larger medium-format sensor requires lenses with a larger image circle, thus was born the G-mount. As it’s designed for mirrorless, the G-mount features a short flange back distance of just 26.7mm. Fuji X-mount lenses aren’t compatible with the medium-format GFX 50S II.
Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization. The built-in five-axis sensor-shift image-stabilization system reduces the appearance of camera shake by up to 6.5 stops, which is crucial when you’re working at slower shutter speeds or in difficult lighting conditions.
117-Point Autofocus System. This built-in autofocus system uses an improved algorithm to deliver fast, accurate performance regardless of whether it’s tracking a moving subject or picking out a face in a crowd.
EVF and Tilting Touchscreen LCD. The fixed 3.69m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder features 0.77x magnification while offering 100% coverage. You also get a tilting 3.2-inch, 2.36M-dot rear touchscreen LCD for navigating menus, controlling image playback, shooting in live view, and selecting focus area. Finally, there’s a 1.8-inch LCD monitor on the top plate that lets you quickly verify shooting settings and exposure data.
Durable, Compact Build. The GFX 50S II features a weather- and dust-resistant build, operating in temperatures as low as 14º Fahrenheit. The camera has dual SDHC / XC card slots that support UHS-II memory, and the included rechargeable NP-W235 battery is rated for an estimated 455 shots per charge.
No, this camera isn’t compatible with Fuji X-mount lenses. It only accepts Fuji G-mount lenses.
