The Fuji X-H2S is a powerful multimedia-focused mirrorless camera with improved sensor strength, autofocus, video-recording specs, and other features compared to its X-series predecessors. Key features include:
26.1MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS 5 sensor
4K 120p, 6.2K 30p, FHD 240p 10-Bit Video
Internal ProRes 422 HQ and F-Log 2
Seven-stop image stabilization; revised autofocus system
26.1MP X-Trans 5 CMOS Sensor. The Fuji X-H2S’s newly designed APS-C 26.1MP X-Trans 5 stacked BSI sensor gives you faster readout speeds and improved low-light performance compared to previous-gen X-series cameras. It uses a distinct color-filter array that reduces moiré and contributes to more natural color rendering, its BSI design reduces noise while improving tonality and clarity, and the stacked design substantially reduces motion distortion like rolling shutter to best suit high-speed video capture and still shooting.
X-Processor 5 Engine. The X-Trans 5 sensor works in tandem with the new X-Processor 5 engine, which uses 64-bit processing to complete video and photo operations up to three times faster than its X-series predecessors. It enables video recording at up to 6.2K with high speeds and bitrates, and it gives you faster still-shooting rates to more easily capture moving subjects. When using an electronic shutter, you can shoot at up to 40 fps with a buffer of 140 consecutive uncompressed RAW frames. If you’re using the mechanical shutter, you can get speeds up to 15 fps and the ability to shoot over 1000 RAW frames in a single burst. Finally, this sensor helps the AI-backed autofocus system track quickly, gives you a 14-stop dynamic range, and enables ISO 160-12800 sensitivity.
Video Powerhouse. The X-H2S is capable of internal 4:2:2 10-bit recording in DCI/UHD 4K at up to 120p and Full HD at up to 240p, and there’s an open-gate 3:2 6.2 setting that’s great for anamorphic applications. This camera supports the H.265 codec and ProRes in high-bitrate 422 HQ, standard 422, and compressed 422 LT. You can record video for up to 90 minutes at a time at all frame rates and resolutions if you’re using a memory card that can handle it, but you’ll probably want to use the separately available Fuji FAN-001 Cooling Fan to keep the camera running on extended shoots if temperatures creep above 100°F.
External RAW Recording. You can use the X-H2S’s full-size HDMI port to record ProRes RAW or Blackmagic RAW video to a compatible external recorder. You have the option of working with the F-Log or F-Log 2 profiles, and either format lets you work in resolutions up to the open-gate 6.2K.
In-Body Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization. The X-H2S’s five-axis image-stabilization system markedly reduces the effects of camera shake on your footage so that you can easily shoot in low light. It can compensate for up to seven stops of shutter speed, depending on the lens you’re using, and it works in conjunction with most X-series lenses, including non-stabilized ones. You also get four-axis digital image stabilization that can help steady your video footage, especially when you’re recording hand-held.
Hybrid Autofocus System. This camera’s updated on-sensor phase-detection autofocus system uses 425 selectable points to cover almost the entire sensor area, and it’s sensitive down to – 7 EV for working in truly low light. This focusing system uses a deep-learning backed AI-adaptive algorithm to offer improved tracking of a wide range of subject types. The Face- and Eye-Detection capabilities have been refined for even greater accuracy, and to account for features and accessories like glasses, masks, and hairlines. The autofocus system can now recognize an even greater array of subjects, including cars, motorcyclists, trains, planes, cats, dogs, birds, horses, and more. If you’re coming from a modern-day DSLR, you’ll be happy to know the X-H2S has a dedicated joystick for intuitive AF-point selection.
Touchscreen LCD, OLED EVF, and Status LCD. The 3.0-inch, 1.62m-dot rear touchscreen LCD features a three-way tilt mechanism for easy viewing in most any position. And there’s a wide, crisp 5.76m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with 0.8x magnification that remains blackout-free even when you’re shooting up 30 fps. An added 1.28-inch monochrome status LCD on the camera’s top plate lets you instantly review your shooting settings.
Memory and Power. The X-H2S has one CFexpress Type B slot and one UHS-II compatible SD-card slot, giving you the option to capture high-bitrate video on a CFexpress card while using the SD slot as a backup or for less speed-intensive shooting. It’s powered by an NP-W235 battery that gives you about 720 shots per charge when working with the EVF in Economy Mode or around 580 shots per charge in Normal Mode.
Ergonomics, Build, and Connectivity. This camera features ten customizable buttons, intuitive controls, and a reasonably substantial handgrip. The magnesium-build body is sealed to protect against dust, moisture, and the cold. There’s a full-size HDMI Type-A port for video output; a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port for tethering, data transfer, and in-camera battery charging; 3.5mm headphone and external-mic jacks for audio monitoring and recording; a PC sync port for flash sync; and a 2.5mm port for wired remote controllers. Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity let you use a mobile device to wirelessly share images or remotely control the camera.
Optional Boost. You can use the optional Fuji VG-XH Vertical Battery Grip and Fuji FT-XH File Transmitter Grip to extend battery life and improve file-transmission functionality.
