The Fuji X100VI (Black) is a large-sensor fixed-lens compact camera that boasts an array of features aimed at bloggers and content creators. It’s a substantial upgrade to the wildly popular Fuji X100V. Key features include:
Improved video and stills; faster operation speed
40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 sensor; X-Processor 5 engine
In-body image stabilization; 425-point autofocus
Built-in 23mm f/2 lens; Frame.io functionality
What’s Changed? The Fuji X100VI (Black) features quite a few improvements over its predecessor, the X100V, including an improved 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor, the faster X-Processor 5 engine, series-first in-body image stabilization, cropped 6.2K 30p video in 4:2:2 10-bit color, faster operation speed, a faster maximum continuous shooting rate, an updated autofocus system, and increased battery life when using the OVF.
40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR Sensor. The X100VI’s X-Trans 5 sensor uses an enhanced image-processing algorithm to increase resolution without affecting the signal-to-noise ratio, producing extremely sharp and clear images throughout its normal ISO range of 125-12,800.
X-Processor 5 Engine. The X-Processor 5 engine facilitates great low-light performance and supercharges operation speed. It greatly reduces startup time, shutter lag, and navigation. The combination of this engine and the X-Trans CMOS 5 sensor increases the maximum continuous shooting rate to 13 fps and extends the ISO-sensitivity range to 64-51,200 for photo and 125-25,600 for video.
6.2K 30p Video. The X100VI captures 6.2K 30p video in 4:2:2 10-bit color from a 1.23x cropped region of the sensor, HQ 4K 60p video at a 1.14x crop oversampled from 6.2K footage, sub-sampled 4K 60p video at a 1.14x crop, and sub-sampled 4K 60p video at the sensor’s full width. The micro-HDMI port lets you record 10-bit 4:2:2 footage to an optional external recorder, and you can use one of Fuji’s many built-in film-simulation modes to give your footage a distinct look.
Takin’ It To The Streets. The X100VI is purpose-built for street photography. Its 1/180,000 sec top electronic shutter speed and 1/4,000 maximum mechanical shutter speed mean you’ll be ready to capture even the most fast-moving subjects. If you hold down the shutter button, the X100VI records images at up to 20 fps at a 1.29x crop with the electronic shutter, and at 11 fps with the mechanical shutter.
In-Body Image Stabilization. The five-axis image-stabilization system—a first for the X series—markedly reduces the effects of camera shake on your footage by up to six stops so that you can easily shoot hand-held or in low light.
Focus, Focus, Focus. The X100VI’s hybrid autofocus system uses contrast- and phase-detection methods for fast, accurate performance in a wide range of lighting conditions. Its 425 selectable points cover almost the entire sensor for pinpoint focusing, even when capturing fast-moving subjects. A machine-trained subject-recognition autofocus feature can track an array of different subjects in any lighting conditions you throw at it.
Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder. The Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder lets you switch between optical viewfinder (OVF) and electronic viewfinder (EVF) modes with a dedicated lever. The 0.66x-magnification OVF mode recalls traditional rangefinder cameras, with an electronic rangefinder that you can manually adjust for improved accuracy. The 3.69m-dot EVF mode gives you 100% frame coverage and access to advanced electronic focusing options and precision manual focusing. Its fast refresh rate keeps lag to a minimum for smooth panning and tracking.
Integrated Fujinon 23mm f/2 Lens. This integrated wide-angle lens, which was carried over from the X100V, features a revised six-group/eight-element optical design that incorporates two aspherical elements for even greater sharpness and clarity. This lens provides a focal length equivalent to 35mm after sensor crop, which makes it great for everyday use. The fast f/2 aperture lets you shoot in low light, while giving you great depth-of-field control for subject-background isolation. While this lens is a fixed focal length, the X100VI includes 50mm- and 75mm-equivalent digital teleconverter settings that simulate longer focal lengths.
Film-Simulation Modes. The X100VI includes twenty film-simulation modes—among them REALA ACE—to give your shots and footage a distinct look based on many of Fujifilm’s classic film types. You get a number of monochrome modes that simulate the effects of color filters, and a Grain Effect mode that gives your shots an old-timey appearance.
Ergonomics and Build. The retro-styled body features physical control dials for settings selection, and precision ISO and shutter-speed adjustments; a tilting 3.0-inch, 1.62m-dot touchscreen LCD; and a rear joystick for autofocus control, menu navigation, and image playback. Most of the controls are on the right-hand side of the X100VI for easy one-handed shooting.
Additional Features. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth let you wirelessly share images and use a linked mobile device to remotely control the camera. The X100VI is powered by an NP-W126S battery, which gives you approximately 310 shots per charge when working with the EVF or 450 shots per charge with the OVF. You also get a single UHD-I compatible SD-card slot.
Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud Functionality. You can use this camera’s Wi-Fi or an ethernet connection to instantly and securely upload your Apple ProRes proxy video files and JPEG, HEIF, or RAW stills to the Frame.io cloud platform. Uploading your videos and shots to the cloud from your shooting location lets you speed up your workflow with real-time access and editing from anywhere. For more information, please click here.
