Nikon Z System. The Nikon Z 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ DX VR was designed specifically for DX-format cameras in Nikon’s Z-mount system, like the Nikon Z 30, Z 50, and Z fc. Z-mount lenses only work with Z-mount cameras, and Z-mount cameras are only compatible with Z-mount lenses.
Ultra-Wide Zoom for Content Creators. This lens covers an ultra-wide 18-42mm equivalent focal-length range that makes it great for vloggers, live-streamers, and other content creators running single-person productions.
Power Zoom. Instead of the traditional ring or mechanical zoom-adjustment method, the 12-28mm uses a Power Zoom system based around an internal linear motor to change focal lengths. This gives you consistent, repeatable zoom speeds with silent and highly precise performance compared to conventional zoom methods. You can use the dedicated ring or magnification buttons—both on the lens—to control the Power Zoom feature. You can also control it via the SnapBridge app, the Nikon MC-N10 Remote Grip and NX Tether software, or the optional Nikon ML-L7 Bluetooth remote.
Variable Aperture. The variable f/3.5-5.6 aperture isn’t great for shooting in low light, so you’ll probably want to stick with outdoor-lighting conditions for best results. The rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to smooth, pleasing bokeh for shallow depth-of-field techniques.
Vibration Reduction. The built-in vibration reduction feature provides up to 4.5 stops of correction for minimizing camera shake at slower shutter speeds and producing sharper results when shooting hand-held or working in lower light.
High-Quality Optical Design. The 12-28mm’s eleven-group/twelve-element optical design includes extra-low dispersion elements and aspherical elements that combine to produce sharp, high-contrast images and reduce color fringing and aberrations throughout the zoom range. The Super Integrated Coating also helps keep optical aberrations and distortion at bay.
Stepping Motor Autofocus System. This system uses a stepping motor for smooth, nearly silent performance that’s great for stills and video alike. You also get full-time manual focusing for precision adjustments, while the internal-focusing design means that the lens maintains its length during focusing. A 7.5-inch minimum focusing distance lets you get in close, and provides a unique perspective when combined with the ultra-wide focal-length range.
