Nikon Z System. The Nikon Z 85mm f/1.2 S was designed specifically for cameras in Nikon’s full-frame Z-mount system. Z-mount lenses only work with Z-mount cameras, and Z-mount cameras are only natively compatible with Z-mount lenses.

Portrait-Length Prime. The 85mm focal length, extreme sharpness, and large, pleasing bokeh make this an excellent portrait lens. Its also great for wedding, maternity, high-fashion, and boudoir photography, and any other situation in which you want to isolate your subject from the background. While this lens was designed for FX-format cameras, you can also use it with DX-format cameras on which it’ll provide a 55mm equivalent focal length.

Ultra-Fast Aperture. The f/1.2 aperture provides a striking degree of subject-background isolation that’s ideal for portraiture, while at f/2, point light sources become dreamlike orbs. It also enables you to shoot in near darkness.

High-Quality Optics. The Nikon 85mm f/1.8’s ten-group/fifteen-element optical design features two aspherical elements and an extra-low dispersion element to promote sharpness and color rendering while limiting coma, distortion, and chromatic aberrations. Nikon has applied a Nano Crystal coating to the elements to combat ghosting and lens flare, even when you’re working in bright or backlit conditions.

Multi-Focus Autofocus System. The multi-focus system uses two separate, synchronized stepper motors to give you fast, silent, and smooth operation with minimal focus breathing for photo and video applications, even when you’re shooting at f/1.2. Pairing a speedy AF system together with a continuous manual-focusing mechanism allows you to hit your focus with confidence, and you get dramatic focus transitions when moving among subjects. This autofocus system is compatible with the Eye-Detect AF feature found in certain cameras.

Programmable Controls. You can use this lens’s programmable control ring to adjust aperture, ISO, or exposure compensation, while a customizable L-Fn shortcut button lets you configure subject tracking, autofocus lock, image playback, and other modes.
