The Sony FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS is a fast, lightweight, professional-grade super telephoto prime that delivers impressive edge-to-edge sharpness and pleasing bokeh. Key features include:
Professional-grade super telephoto prime
Ideal for sports, journalism, and wildlife photography
Built-in five-axis image stabilization
Fast, accurate, and nearly silent autofocus
Full-Frame E-Mount. As part of the FE line of lenses, the Sony FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS is designed for Sony full-frame cameras. It’s also fully compatible with APS-C cameras, on which it’ll provide a 450mm equivalent focal length.
G-Master Series Quality. This lens is part of Sony’s premium G-Master series. What sets this series apart from other Sony lenses is an emphasis on an extremely high resolving power of fifty lines per mm; round, pleasing bokeh; and a robust, weather-sealed body.
Pro-Grade Super Telephoto Prime. The FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS is a far-reaching super telephoto prime that’s great for photojournalism; indoor-sports, event, and wildlife photography and videography; and any other application that could benefit from some extra reach. The rounded eleven-blade diaphragm creates smooth, distinctive bokeh when you’re using selective-focus techniques.
Advanced Optical Design. The FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS’s sixteen-group/twenty-element design includes a mix of Super Extra-Low Dispersion elements and standard Extra-Low Dispersion elements to minimize chromatic aberrations, and to produce sharp, clear, high-contrast images. A Nano AR Coating II keeps flare and ghosting at bay while maintaining color fidelity.
Five-Axis Image Stabilization. A five-axis Optical SteadyShot image-stabilization system minimizes the appearance of camera shake, giving you sharp images even when you’re shooting hand-held at lower shutter speeds. There are three stabilization modes, each of which is suited to a different shooting situation. Mode 1 is a general-shooting mode, Mode 2 is designed for panning shots, and Mode 3 prioritizes accurate framing when you’re shooting fast subjects that move erratically. The SteadyShot system will work with select cameras’ built-in sensor-shift image stabilization for even more effective blur control.
Dual XD Linear Motor Autofocus System. This internal focusing system features updated algorithms that make it quieter and more responsive than many comparable lenses. Its speed and accuracy makes it especially well-suited for sports- and wildlife-photography applications. A video-optimized “power focusing” mode smoothly recalls a preset focus position, a focus-range limiter switch helps increase focusing efficiency, and there are four customizable focus-hold buttons. You can enable Direct Manual Focusing by turning the focus ring regardless of whether or not you’re in manual-focus mode, and the Linear Response Manual Focusing feature gives you even greater precision.
Compact, Lightweight Build. This lens is 10.4 inches long and weighs just 3.2 lb.—light and compact by super telephoto standards. Its weight is distributed evenly across its body, so that handling is smooth regardless of whether you’re shooting hand-held, on a tripod, or on a monopod.
Teleconverter Compatible. The FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS is compatible with the Sony FE 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters, both of which support autofocus.
