Full-Frame E-Mount. As a part of the FE line of lenses, the Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G is designed to cover the full-frame sensors on Sony a7 / a9 series cameras. Since it’s an E-mount lens, it’s also fully compatible with their crop-frame, APS-C cameras that feature an E-mount.

Versatile Normal-Length Prime. When used on a full-frame camera, this lens provides a standard focal length that’s well-suited to portraiture, documentary shooting, and street photography, among other applications. The reasonably fast f/2.5 aperture is great for low-light shooting and subject-background isolation, while the 1.2-foot minimum focusing distance lets you get in close. Using an APS-C camera? You’ll get a 75mm focal length.

Dual XD Linear Motor Autofocus System. This internal focusing system provides fast, nearly silent, and highly accurate autofocus performance that’s great for still and video use. A customizable focus hold button and an AF/MF switch help to tailor focusing to your shooting needs.

Advanced Optics. The FE 50mm f/2.5’s nine-group/nine-element optical design incorporates an advanced aspherical element and an extra-low dispersion element to produce sharp, clear images. The lens’s rounded seven-blade diaphragm gives images smooth bokeh when you’re using selective-focusing techniques, while a multi-coating reduces color fringing and aberrations.

Durable, Compact Build. This lens’s durable, dust- and moisture-resistant construction and rubberized control rings mean you can use it in adverse conditions without worry. You can de-click the physical aperture ring for smooth, silent aperture switching that’s ideal for video applications.
