The Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD is a compact, versatile wide-angle to standard-length zoom for Sony E-mount cameras. Key features include:
Versatile wide-angle to standard-length zoom
High-quality optical design
Fast, accurate, and nearly silent autofocus
Durable, weather-resistant build
Versatile Wide-to-Standard Zoom. The Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD’s versatile wide-angle to standard-length zoom range makes it great for a broad range of shooting applications, including vlogging, portraiture, street scenes, landscapes, cityscapes, and everyday shooting. Using an APS-C camera? This lens will give you 30-60mm equivalent focal-length range.
Fast Aperture. The constant f/2.8 aperture is great for shooting in low light. It also offers superlative depth-of-field control for better subject-background isolation, while a nine-blade diaphragm contributes to pleasing bokeh.
Advanced Optical Design. The eleven-group/ten-element optical formula includes four low-dispersion elements, two glass-molded aspherical elements, and one hybrid aspherical element that give you sharp, high-contrast images across the image plane. Each element features Tamron’s BBAR coating to combat flare and ghosting for even greater contrast in backlit and harsh lighting conditions.
VXD Linear-Motor Autofocus System. The 20-40mm’s VXD linear-motor autofocus system tracks even the most fast-moving subjects quickly, accurately, and smoothly, making it ideal for still and video use. This lens is compatible with Sony’s Direct Manual Focus function and Eye AF on cameras with those features, and there’s also full-time manual-focus override for even greater precision. A 6.7-inch minimum focusing distance and 1:3.8 macro reproduction ratio let you get in close.
Additional Features. This lens is compatible with in-camera chromatic-aberration, shading, and distortion lens-correction features. The zoom ring has a rapid 65° arc that lets you make fast focal-length adjustments with minimal movement. You can use this lens in inclement conditions thanks to its strong, moisture-resistant, aluminum-magnesium alloy build.
Di III refers to Tamron’s third generation of Digitally Integrated Design lenses that have been engineered specifically for mirrorless, interchangeable-lens cameras with no internal mirror box or pentaprism.
VXD refers to the Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive autofocus system. “VXD” being catchier and less unwieldy than “VCETD,” I suppose!
