The Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 for Sony E is an advanced, flexible short to mid telephoto zoom designed for full-frame Sony cameras. Key features include:
Versatile, fast-aperture short to mid telephoto zoom
Revised optical formula for greater sharpness
Fast, accurate, and nearly silent autofocus
VC image stabilization; weather-resistant build
Fast-Aperture Telephoto Zoom. The Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2’s short to mid telephoto zoom range and f/2.8 maximum wide-open aperture make it great for sports and wildlife photography. Its bright maximum aperture gives you excellent depth-of-field control; soft, beautiful bokeh; and consistent brightness throughout the zoom range. Using an APS-C camera? This lens will give you a 105-270mm equivalent focal length.
Revised Optical Design. The redesigned fifteen-group/twenty-element optical formula includes an extra-low dispersion element, three low-dispersion elements, two glass-molded aspherical elements, and a hybrid aspherical element to give you sharp, high-contrast images across the image plane. Each lens element has a BBAR-G2 coating that combats ghosting, internal reflections, and flare while helping maintain sharpness and color fidelity even in strong light.
VXD Linear-Motor Autofocus System. The 70-180mm’s VXD linear-motor autofocus system tracks even the most fast-moving subjects quickly, accurately, quietly, and smoothly, making it ideal for still and video use. This lens is compatible with Sony’s Direct Manual Focus function and Eye AF on cameras with those features, and there’s also full-time manual-focus override for even greater precision. An 11.8-inch minimum focusing distance lets you get reasonably close to your subject.
Vibration Compensation. Tamron’s Vibration Compensation system is based around a free-floating element controlled by two gyroscoping sensors that measure horizontal and vertical vibrations and compensate accordingly to eliminate the appearance of camera shake.
Durable Construction. You can use this lens in inclement conditions thanks to its moisture-resistant build. The front element’s fluorine coating protects against smearing and debris.
Di III refers to Tamron’s third generation of Digitally Integrated Design lenses that have been engineered specifically for mirrorless, interchangeable-lens cameras with no internal mirror box or pentaprism.
VC refers to Tamron’s proprietary Vibration Compensation image-stabilization system.
VXD refers to the Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive autofocus system. “VXD” being catchier and less unwieldy than “VCETD,” I suppose!
Yes, this lens provides full-frame sensor coverage.
