Modular Design. The Tilta Mirage Motorized VND Kit is based around the Tilta Mirage Matte Box, which has a modular design that gives you plenty of configuration options. You can use it in a pared-back configuration with only the 95mm filter holder and lens clamp. You can add the included wireless motor system; variable ND module; 15mm LWS rod support; lens hood; top flag; or 67mm, 72mm, 77mm, or 82mm lens adapters, in addition to a whole host of accessories that aren’t included with this rental.

Variable Neutral-Density System. This rental includes a VND module that lets you precisely adjust the ND effect from 0.3 to 2.7 stops. The module has built-in hard stops between ND 0.3 to 2.7 to help prevent that pesky X-pattern shadow from appearing. The variable ND module has no color shift for natural colors, and it has a larger axis between the filter elements. To prevent vignetting, Tilta recommends using ND 0.3 to 2.1 for wide lenses and ND 2.1 to 2.7 for focal lengths beyond 35mm.

Wireless Motor System. You can mount the Tilta Mirage Wireless Motor to the VND unit and use the included Wireless Controller to remotely change the amount of ND when your camera is mounted on a stabilizer or gimbal, or when you need smooth adjustment without disturbing the camera in the middle of a take. You can also control the VND’s motor with Tilta’s Nucleus-M Wireless Lens Control System in addition to the included wireless remote. The Wireless Controller mounts via NATO rail and can control the Nucleus M and its Nano motor in addition to the included wireless motor. In addition, you can use the included Nucleus Nano Motor Mounting Bracket to secure the Nucleus Nano motor directly to the VND module. The standard wireless range is roughly 328 feet.

Additional Features. The matte box’s body has integrated vents that reduce wind resistance to aid airflow and improve stability when shooting at high speeds, such as on a drone or in a fast-moving car. This kit uses Tilta’s 95mm circular filter system gives you coverage for lenses with up to a 95mm outer lens-barrel diameter. Circular filters are significantly lighter than traditional filters—they weigh about a quarter as much as traditional 4 × 5.65-inch glass filters.
