The Wimberley Type II is a gimbal head for use with heavy super telephoto lenses. It offers several advantages over generic gimbal heads. First, it’s quite a bit lighter. Second, the new knobs and knob placements are clearly sturdier and much easier to adjust (both can be adjusted with the same hand) with the lens in place. The knurled knobs are far, far easier to work with in cold weather with gloves on. The head weighs 3.15 pounds and stands 9.25 inches tall. It requires a 3/8-inch tripod mount screw.
This rental doesn’t include an Arca-Swiss type plate, which is required to use this tripod head. We rent the plates separately, but the size plate you’ll need will vary depending on what size lens you’re using. We rent a few different sizes to give you the most flexibility.
